The Board of Directors elects the Chief Executive Officer, who manages and develops the company’s business operations and is in charge of operational management under the instructions issued by the Board.

The CEO presents and reports to the Board of Directors. The CEO is in charge of operational management under the Limited Liability Companies Act and instructions issued by the Board of Directors, ensuring that the company’s accounting practices comply with the law and that financial matters are handled in a reliable manner.

The executive team supports the CEO, for example, in the preparation of strategy, operational principles and general company matters.

Tero Virtala

Tero Virtala (b. 1974) holds a Master’s degree in engineering and has acted as the CEO since August 2016. He has extensive and comprehensive experience in the game industry and management of game companies. During 1999–2002, Virtala held the position of Management Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in corporate strategy and change management in the IT, telecom and media industry.

During 2002–2015, Virtala served as the CEO of RedLynx Ltd. Until 2011, RedLynx operated independently, growing into a successful company comprising of several game teams. RedLynx was acquired by the international gaming giant Ubisoft (EPA: UBI) in 2011. During 2011–2015, Virtala served as the Managing Director of RedLynx, participating in Ubisoft’s international development projects simultaneously. Subsequently, Virtala served as an independent business and management consultant for a year prior to taking on the duties of Remedy’s CEO.

Markus Mäki (b. 1974) is one of the founders of Remedy and a member of its Board since 1995, and one of the pioneers of the Finnish game industry with experience of over 20 years. He has participated in every Remedy game project, mainly in production and technology management roles.

The entrepreneurial Mäki has also participated in, for example, the founding of Futuremark Ltd, where he was in charge of several client projects with international technology companies, including Intel, NVIDIA and AMD. Mäki was a member of the Board of Directors at Futuremark for 15 years.

Mäki obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English at the Espoo-Vantaa Institute of Technology, (currently Metropolia).

Sami Järvi

Sami Järvi (b. 1970) is one of the most internationally respected creative forces and writers in the gaming industry. Järvi has been with Remedy since the first game published in 1996. He has been part of the creation of all of Remedy’s game brands, including Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and has a key role in the definition of Remedy’s creative DNA and storytelling brand.

Terhi Kauppi

Terhi Kauppi (b. 1971) holds a Master’s degree in economics. Previously she has been the CFO at Asiakastieto Group Ltd, Pontos Ltd and First Hop Ltd, and worked in financial administration at Nokia. Kauppi is chairman of the board at Emaileri Oy, a board member at Enersense International Ltd and Suomen Asiakastieto Ltd, and a deputy member at Tenedum Ltd and Tenedum Alpha Ltd.

Mikaela Öberg (b. 1979) holds a Master’s degree in education with emphasis on leadership and work psychology. She is also a certified coach. Öberg-Mattila has 15 years of experience in HR and Recruitment from various industries. She worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 8 years and prior to joining Remedy as Interim HR Director and Consultant as an entrepreneur.

During the last 15 years, Öberg-Mattila has planned, developed and executed various projects and practices, when it comes to talent attraction and recruitment, employer branding, functional people operations practices, people, competence and leadership development, employee engagement and retention and building teams.

Johannes Paloheimo

Johannes Paloheimo (b. 1984) holds a Master’s degree from Chalmers University of Technology and a Bachelor’s degree from Arcada University of Applied Sciences, in industrial management. Prior to joining Remedy, Paloheimo worked as a management consultant at the Finnish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Stockholm.

Since joining Remedy, Paloheimo has been involved in every game project; building commercial partnerships, handling contract negotiations, to leading Remedy’s internal marketing team supporting publishers selling and distributing Remedy’s games. Paloheimo is currently a deputy board member at Anchor Integrity Oy.

Christopher Schmitz

Christopher Schmitz (b. 1972) has worked in the game industry for over 28 years. Previously he has been in charge of developing and managing production and business in European game studios such as EA Ghost Games, Square Enix IO Interactive, Ubisoft Blue Byte and Quantic Dream, overseeing projects on major franchises like Need for Speed, Hitman, Detroit – Become Human, and Assassin’s Creed. Christopher holds a MBA degree from Liverpool Business School (UK) and a Master in Business Management from CCI (Germany).
